KHOST CITY (SW): Literary activities by women in Khost province are at standstill, local female writers and artists told Salam Watandar.
Shamim Sanga, female member of the Youth Parliament from Khost, said unlike the past, not much is happening on the cultural front these days. She added there were sessions of poetry, critical sessions on works of art, and many more such activities, but nothing is happening these days. She criticized the directorate of women affairs for not doing enough in this regard.
“The central high school for girls had a cultural group that used to have weekly and monthly poetry sessions, but the literary movement is at standstill now”, she lamented. She urged the Kabul government, and cultural organisations to play their part in reviving the culture of arts and literature for women in Khost.
Malala Wali, chairperson for the directorate of women affairs, said in this regard that the dwindling funds for cultural activities from donor agencies is the main reason behind this issue. Najibur Rehman, director for the directorate of culture and information, also stressed upon the need for support to the women’s literary activities in Khost.
Some 15 civil society organisations of women are registered in Khost.
