KABUL (SW) – The maiden meeting of the Leadership Council for Reconciliation chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was held at the presidency here on Sunday.
Addressing the meeting, President Ghani said this council has been formed after two months of consultations. He said this council would discuss contours of talks with the Taliban as well as the formation of the delegation that would hold talks with the insurgents.
He said individuals who are publically propagating against the state and against the gains of the past 18 years should not be made part of the peace team. The President said all political leaders and other segments of the society would now approach the peace process with the Taliban from unified position along with the public.
The Leadership Council for Reconciliation would decide about the delegation that would hold talks with the Taliban.
Mohammad Umer Daudzai, spokesman for the LCR, told a press conference that the authorities and limits of the peace delegation would be set in the next sitting of the council. He said a decision has been reached to send an inclusive delegation for talks with the Taliban in Qatar.
