FAIZABAD (SW) – Land-sliding has killed at least five gold-panning laborers in Badakhshan province, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Naik Mohammad Nazari, spokesman for the provincial governor, said this incident took place in the Khalidchod area of the Raghistan district. He added up to 35 more miners are still missing.
He added the gold-panning activities are underway in areas under control of the Taliban therefore rescue and relief operations could not be conducted.
Local officials feared the death toll could also be high.
