HERAT CITY (SW): Dozens of schools in Herat might close down leaving hundreds of children deprived of education due to lack of enough teachers.
Abdul Raziq Ahmadi, head of the directorate of education, informed the province needs at least four thousand teachers, but the Ministry of Education (MoE) has provided budget for only 1500 contract teachers. He feared this would deprive thousands of children of education, and would led to closure of dozens of schools.
Commenting on this, Kabir Haqmal, director communication at the MoE, informed Salam Watandar this issue is not confined to Herat. He informed financial constraints have resulted in reducing number of contract teachers in many other provinces as well.
This comes as governor of Adrskan district reported closure of up to 28 schools in the district due to lack of teachers.
