GHOR (SW) – On a sunny autumn day in the Laal Wa Sarjangal area of Ghor province, a woman with brown hair and green eyes carried a book to the village school.
Her name is Monica, a woman who left Poland months ago for Ghor province to educate Afghan children. Monica is 28 years old and teaches English to students at a private school in Ghor.
This Polish lady has been in Ghor for about five months. Monica says educating Afghan children and getting to know the customs of the country has driven her thousands of miles away from her family.
She is familiar with the certain local words such as explosion and suicide. She says she knew she was going to one of the most insecure countries in the world before heading to Afghanistan, but she went ahead to educate the children.
Monica knew nothing about Afghanistan, but that has changed now. She says the Afghan media too is reflecting the country in a negative way far from the good things here. “I came, I saw, and my opinion changed. Afghanistan has a lot of good customs and I have been very good with people and their good behavior over the past few months. "
Monica wishes the children of Afghanistan to be educated and enrolled in the world's top universities to continue their education. And for that, she came to teach English herself. She is happy and energetic. She says she is more interested in educating children in the countryside as they are raised with meager resources and with fewer opportunities to learn.
Staying with Monica for a few hours was thrilling to see how a foreign woman enjoyed being with the villagers in Afghanistan. She says she might have lived a quieter life in Poland, but she never felt so satisfied in her life.
Monica hopes for better education opportunities for children in Afghanistan and says that the number of female and male students is increasing year by year, which is promising for a bright future.
Her students described their teacher as ‘an angel’. Monica is a graduate of the Polish School of Social Sciences and has many years of teaching experience.
