KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Kunduz civil society activists took to the streets on Saturday to denounce the deadly U.S. airstrike that killed at least 30 civilians in Buz Kandahari village of the province on Thursday.

The protestors said that both the security forces and the militants do not care about the civilians’ lives. They noted that more than 500 civilians have lost their lives and some 1000 others have been wounded due to the fighting here in the past one year.

Lida Frahat, a civil society activist, said on the occasion that the civilians do appreciate the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF)’s efforts for peace and stability but the locals want them to be more cautious and pay more attention towards the safety of civilians.

Mohammad Ayub, the village chief at Buz Kandahari, stated that as many as 36 civilians including 17 children have been killed in the latest airstrike conducted by the foreign troops. He asked the government and human rights organization to put the perpetrators on trial.

Expressing regret over the loss of innocent lives, Dowlat Waziri, the deputy spokesperson at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that the Taliban militants took positions in their homes among the local population. He added the foreign troops launched airstrike on the militants and killed a number of them including their commanders.

The deputy spokesperson for the MoD noted that a delegation to investigate the incident has been sent to the Buz Kandahari village.
