Khost residents irked by locations of police HQ

KHOST CITY (SW) – Despite the relative peace, the security barriers erected around police headquarters in downtown Khost are causing troubles for traders in the city.

Some ten years ago, when the law and order situation in the city was fragile, the police headquarters were moved inside the city and so many barriers were erected around it. The traders in the city demand the headquarters to be moved out of the city since law and order situation has improved here, but the barriers continue to hinder commercial activities in the city center.

Mohammad Ullah and Nazeer Jan, two traders with shops around the police headquarters, told Salam Watandar the barriers have made it difficult for them to bring goods via trucks, and have also made it difficult for the customers to reach their shops for shopping.

They added all shops are forced to close whenever a high level delegation is visiting the police headquarters.

It is worth noticing the administrative compound for the province is located out of the city, but the police headquarters remains inside the city.

Nezam Mir Mangal, a local elder, said in this regard that the police headquarters should be moved out of city so that the citizens and traders can go about their lives with ease.

Meanwhile, the provincial police chief, Akhtar Mohammad Noorzai, has urged the Khost residents to be patient as there are courts as well as passport office inside the police headquarters for public service. He defending keeping the police headquarters inside the city.

The provincial headquarters of the National Directorate of Security is also located inside the Khost city, and the locals have long been demanding its relocation outside the city.
