PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Eastern Logar province’s security chief blamed the former President Hamid Karzai on Sunday for turning a blind eye to a militants’ camp here for over a decade.
Mohammad Daud Ahmadi, Police Chief in Logar told journalists that the former president asked local security and intelligence organs not to attack Taliban’s training center in Zarghon area of the Mohammad Agha district. Claiming to have destroyed this center now, Ahmadi said Karzai overlooked this center for reason best known to him.
He claimed Hamid Karzai sent written directives to different security organs to avoid any operation in Zarghon area.
Ahmadi claimed the militants’ training camp in Mohammad Agha district was not just causing terror in Logar but also the capital Kabul and surrounding provinces.
Latest offensives have been carried out on the directives of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, he said, adding 27 militants have been killed and 35 more were wounded in the operation.
The Police Chief claimed to have confiscated 8 vehicles laden with explosives that were supposed to be used for suicide attacks among other arms and ammunitions.
In his latest interview, the former president questioned the existence of al-Qaida, and denied that the 9/11 terror attacks which killed nearly 3,000 people were planned in Afghanistan.
On the eve of the anniversary of the 2001 attacks, Karzai, who left office last year after 12 years, used an interview with al Jazeera to express his doubt that the terrorist group led by the late Osama bin Laden was responsible for the operation which prompted the invasion of Afghanistan.
“I don’t know if al-Qaida existed and I don’t know if they exist,” said Karzai. “I have not seen them and I’ve not had any report about them, any report that would indicate that al-Qaida is operating in Afghanistan. It is for me a myth, For us, they don’t exist”, he said.
