KABUL (SW): The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on Monday landed in Kabul on a first state visit to Afghanistan by the head of state of the island nation in over five decades.
The visiting dignitary pledged support for the peace process and economic development in Afghanistan.
Addressing the joint press conference, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani highlighted the significance of the role Indonesia can play in this perspective. The President highlighted the historic ties between the two Muslim nations. He said a new chapter of ties has begun with Afghanistan learning from the experiences of Indonesia in peace building, economic development and strengthening democracy.
President Ghani is set to visit Indonesia in April this year on the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart. He said this invitation manifests the commitment of Indonesia towards sustainable ties with Afghanistan.
With over 260 million population, 86 per cent of whom are Muslims, Indonesia has many success stories in various fields.
