Jehadi figures offer mediation between NUG and protesters

11/06/2017

KABUL (SW): Leaders of the alliance of senior Jihadi figures and parties have urged the protesters in Kabul to end their ongoing sit-in camps against the National Unity Government (NUG) considering the critical situation in the country.

Sibghatullah Mujadadi, head of the alliance, told a press conference that he too has complaints and demands, but now is not the time to demand resignation of the top officials. He added the sit-in camps on various busy streets in the capital have irked citizens of all age and occupation, patients and officials alike. “This is a major sin”, he said while offering his services as mediator between the protesters and the government.

Also on Sunday, leaders of the New Movement Party, threw their weight behind the NUG amid ongoing protests. Aalim Sai, leader of the party, said the fragile state of affairs in the country demand unity among the citizens.

Following deadly truck bombing in Kabul last month that killed up to 150 people and left more than 400 wounded, the protests have erupted. Protesters are demanding the resignation of the security bosses, and some factions of the protesters are even demanding dissolution of the government, and establishment of an interim set-up.

Meanwhile, the protest demonstrations have entered 10th day on Sunday. The main sit-in camp at the Zanbaq Square in Kabul received fresh support from protesters joining from Paktia and Parwan provinces.
