Jawzjan residents warn the government, IEC

23/10/2018

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – A number of Jawzjan residents on Tuesday warned to boycott the government if it failed to hold Wolesi Jirga (lower house) polls in Aqcha district again.

The protesters said law enforcement agencies failed to ensure peace in Aqcha, Mangjek, Qirqeen, Khamaab and Khanqa district, which deprived the locals the right to vote. Mohammad Sharif and Haji Batoor, two such residents of the district, said the protests would continue if the government and the Independent Election Commission failed to meet their demands.

Meanwhile, Mawlawi Lutfullah Azizi, provincial governor, has assured the protesters if the IEC decided to hold the polls again in these districts, the security forces would ensure peace. Hameedullah Baluch, provincial head of the IEC, has said the peoples’ demands in this regard would be shared with the IEC in Kabul.

The Taliban hit a number of polling stations in Aqcha with rockets during the voting over the weekend.
