KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Industrialists Association (AIA) has raised grim concerns over the 25% hike in power tariff.
Speaking at a press conference, Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, head of the Afghanistan Industrial Association asked the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) and De Afghanistan Brishna Shirkat (DABS) to revise their decision.
He stressed that if the industries are charged with the 25% increase in power rate, they will get bankrupt very soon. He further said that high price of electricity would scare the investors away.
Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, Speaker of the Mesharano Jirga (upper house) was also present on this occasion. He stated that this issue should be discussed with the officials and measurements should be taken to resolve it.
On the other hand, Muhammad Nasim Ganji, head of DABS in Kabul, said that the power utility is obliged to follow the rule and regulations. He added if it does not meet its regulations, it will face the fate, which Kabul Bank went through years ago.
This comes at a time when Abdul Sattar Murad, the Minister of Economy, while attending the 6th meeting of the DABS board, said that shortage of electricity in Afghanistan has forced the Afghan investors to invest $ 80 billion in foreign countries.
