KABUL (SW) – The latest report by the Central Statistics Organization indicate Afghanistan’s population grew with a notable rate of 2.14 per cent in the Hijri Shamsi (Solar Islamic) calendar.
Haseebullah Muhib, deputy head of the CSO, told a moot in this connection that the total population has swollen to 31.6 million with 16.1 million men and 15.5 million women. He added every other Afghan has at least one economic dependent to take care of.
Deputy Head of the CSO said rural population comprises 22.6 per cent of the total population.
On the positive note, he said the number of boys and girls enrolled in schools has surged to 5.3 million and 3.4 million respectively from 5.1 million and 3.3 million respectively two year ago. Muhib said number of private universities also increase, but there has been no change in the public sector universities.
The report further noted the number of health centers also increased. About the Gross Domestic Product, the CSO announced it increased with over 2 per cent. Muhib said significant increase was witnessed last year in the exports of dry and fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables.
The CSO officials blamed some public entities do not cooperate in terms of sharing updated information.
