MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW) – Ground breaking ceremonies were held in Mazar-e-Sharif on Tuesday for a new quality cricket stadium and airport road in the city.
The two projects costing $ 4 million have been sponsored by India. Vinay Kumar, Ambassador of India to Afghanistan, said on the occasion his country is determined for long-term support for Afghanistan.
Mohammad Ishaq Rehguzar, governor of Balkh province, said on his term the Indian government has also pledged to develop a number of faculties in the Balkh University.
The four-lane airport road is 2.8 km long, and would cost $ 3 million while the cricket stadium would cost $ 1 million.
The Balkh cricket team emerged as the best in the northern zone of the country in domestic competitions. The new cricket stadium is likely to promote talent here who for long been practicing on irregular pitches.
