13/09/2017

KABUL (SW): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) authorities stated that holding elections is a way forward for solving Afghanistan’s problems, but negligence in this regard will turn opportunities into crisis.

Abdul Aziz Aryayi, the chairman of IECC, addressing a press conference on Wednesday here in Kabul said that Abdul lack of funds, lack of necessary equipment, lack of independence in finance and human resources recruitment, weak coordination of relevant internal institutions, lack of technical and financial cooperation of the international community, and the delay in the introduction of the head of the secretariat of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission, are the problems that the Commission has been facing.

According to him, based on the laws the IECC has introduced 3 candidates for the secretariat of the Commission to Presidential Palace in July, but the government has not taken any decision yet after 4 months.

Shah Hussein Murtazawi, the spokesman for the Presidential Palace, justified that the Presidential Palace has concerns after deliberations over the nominees of the IECC’s secretariat. He assured efforts are underway by the government to resolve the financial problems of the Commission which relates to the Ministry of Finance and international partners.
