Improved understanding leading to greater sense of responsibility

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): Amid many grievances among locals towards the government, a number of organizations such as the Civil Society Improvement Organization are striving hard to identify key issues and devise local solutions.

Working on a number of initiatives in Baghlan’s provincial capital and a number of villages, the Civil Society Improvement Organization (CSIO) has been playing key role in bringing a positive change in the society here. It has been instrumental in raising the level of public awareness.

Ghulam Farooq is a street councilor in the Pul-i-Khumri city. Hailing the services of the Civil Society Improvement Organization, he informed improvements are seen in the fields of health, social services and other affairs due to CSIO. He noted the locals now feel responsible towards the state of affairs, and strive to resolve impediments collectively.

A trainer at the CSIO, Faheema Noori, said it was not easy to motivate the locals towards this social cause. She said initially, not everyone was motivated to come and learn about democratic rights and responsibilities, urbanization and justice.

Commenting on this, Mohammad Noor Yadgari, chief executive officer of CSIO, said people are happy to be informed and educated about the civic affairs and other corresponding matters. He, however, acknowledged there are many issues hindering further improvement in this regard, and it would take some time to fix all such issues.

The CSIO chief executive officer admits the improved level of understanding has led to greater sense of responsibility among the locals. This organization has been working in Doshe, Khanjan, Pul-i-Khumri and a number of other villages in Baghlan province.
