KUNDUZ CITY (SW) – Local officials in Kunduz say a roadside bomb has exploded in the Khanabad district of the province killing seven civilians.
Hayatullah Amiri, the governor of Khanabad district, confirmed the news, saying seven civilians got killed and six others got injured in the blast.
The incident took place Monday evening in the Jangal Bashi area of the district when a vehicle carrying 13 farm workers hit the roadside IED. The workers had come to Kunduz from Badakhshan to work on wheat farms.
District governor Amiri said the incident took place in a Taliban-held area and that the victims were residents of Argwi district of Badakhshan province. According to him, the injured were taken to hospital for treatment and the condition of two of them is serious.
Meanwhile, Kunduz governor's spokesman Esmatullah Moradi said the mine had been planted by the Taliban in the area. The Taliban have not yet commented on the blast.
