IEC urged to expedite recount, audit

KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Complaint Commission has called upon Independent Election Commission to expedite the recount and audit process and resolve outstanding issue to announce the preliminary election results.

The IECC head, Zuhra Bayan Shinwari, told a press conference here on Thursday that a total of 2118 polling stations requires recount, out of them 105 polling stations, and 30 polling centers have been invalidated. She said the list has been shared with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) for action.

On this occasion, international commissioner also reiterated IECC’s commitment to deliver its mandates in a manner respectful of law and people of Afghanistan.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy head of the IECC, Din Mohammad Azimi, said three officials linked to the IEC have been referred to the court for legal actions. Qasim Elyasi, secretary of the IECC, said on his term that the IEC should not repeat missing deadline on announcing preliminary results.
