KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday isued the final list of candidates for the forthcoming district council elections.
Gulajan Abdul Bade Sayad, chairman IEC, told a presser that a total of 6152 candidates had filed nomination papers, but 6071 have been found eligible to run for the post. The IEC chairman stressed the nomination papers have been evaluated in provincial capitals nationwide.
According to the IEC figures, in a number of districts no female candidate has filed nomination papers, and in some instances the female candidates have no opponents for the polls. Same is the case in some areas with the male candidates for the district councils.
The IEC chairman said women have been encouraged and given second chance to submit nomination papers. The Ministry of Women Affairs and other women rights organizations were urged to play active part in this regard.
