Renovation of the Darul Aman Palace commences

KABUL (SW): The reconstruction of Darul Aman Palace was officially inaugurated in a landmark ceremony at the ruins o the palace on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that once the palace is reconstructed it would then be used to host important officials events.

High ranking officials including the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, speakers of the Wolesi Jirga Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and others were present on this occasion.

To create a symbolic impression, President Ghani chaired a meeting of the Urban Development Affairs Ministry in the war-ruined Darul Aman Palace. 

While inaugurating this reconstruction project, President Ghani expressed that the reconstruction of palace would be totally funded by the Afghan government. He added that a museum would also be built at the Palace. Ghani stressed that the reconstruction of Darul Aman Palace would prove to be a begging for the reconstructions of the whole country.

Speaking on the occaiosn, Sayed Sadat Mansour Nadiri, the Minister for the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing stated that Afghan engineers would rebuild the palace with high standards. He added that $ 16.5 million has been allocated for the reconstructing of the Darul Aman Palace. The minister added that the reconstruction would be completed in the next 5 years. He added that in case the allocated funds prove short, the government will allocate additional funds for it.

The European style Darul Aman Palace was built between 1952-1927 with the help of German engineers. Afghan progressive King Amanullah Khan built the palace and entitled it as  “Darul Aman” which means “abode of peace”. But the King could only live for around 2 years in his lovely palace.

Darul Aman Palace was completely destroyed during the 1990s civil war.
