SAR-I-PUL (SW): Confirming the news about Taliban capturing a district in northern Sar-e-Pul district, local authorities have said fighting has forced hundreds of families to flee for life.
Muhammad Asif Jabarkhail, District Police Chief told SW that the main reason behind fall of the district was the fact that Afghanistan Local Police (ALP) commander joined the militants with his 100 men.
He added 3 local policemen have died and 10 others have been taken away a live by the militants. “At the moment, Taliban are making inroads into Suzma Qala district”, he said. Jabarkhail said supply routes to Kohistanat district have blocked by the militants.
According to the locals there heavy fighting took place for 3 days before the militants captured the district. “We are preparing to reclaim the district and drive the militants out”, he vowed.
Noor Mohammad Rahmani, Head of Provincial Council, said that the Taliban’s control over Kohistanak posed a serious threat to the province.
He said hundreds of residents left their homes and have arrived in the provincial capital. “They are in dire need of help”, he stressed.
