MAIDAN CITY (SW): Local officials in central Maidan Wardak province have said that clashes between supporters of the Hezb-e-Islami Party (HIP) and the Taliban loyalists have left 2 people dead and 3 others injured.
The fight reportedly broke between the men of Faizullah, a local commander of the Hezb-e-Islami Party, and Niamatullah, the pro-Taliban commander in Jalriz district in Maidan Wardak province.
Naqibullah Haidari, the district chief in Jalriz told Salam Watandar that a Taliban militant has been killed and two of his fellows got wounded in the fire fight. Haidari added that the clash began on Sunday and was still underway. He explained that the fight broke when gunmen belonging to Hezb-e-Isalmi Party tried to stop Taliban from their activities in the district and capital city Maidan Shahr.
The district chief noted that the two groups are using heavy guns.
The Hezb-e-Islami Party of the former Mujahedeen leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar is said to be close to a final peace deal with the Afghan government.
