KABUL (SW) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, presidential candidate for the ‘Islamic Justice and Peace’ electoral team, said on Monday that the electoral commission has announced the preliminary results on the basis of fake votes.
Hekmatyar claimed during a presser that more than one million allegedly void ballots were cast in the presidential election. According to him, the electoral commission has not addressed the legal demands by the ‘Islamic Justice and Peace’ team.
"If the current situation in the country is not taken seriously, we will see the situation like that in Iraq and Lebanon in Afghanistan," he warned. Hekmatyar warned that Hizb-i Islami supporters have the ability to defend their rights and would never accept ‘false results’.
He said foreign forces never accept a government in Afghanistan that wants to be independent.
This came as the electoral commission announced the initial results on Sunday. According to the results, President Ashraf Ghani secured the most votes with a decisive 50.64 percent of the total vote followed by Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah with 39.52 percent of the total votes.
