MAIMANA (SW): Authorities in Faryab province have said heavy snowfall claimed 25 lives and left 6 people injured .
Mir Amanullah Zafer, police chief, told a press conference that heavy snowfall has taken 25 lives and left 6 civilians injured in the province. “Our policemen have rescued 70 passenger vehicles stuck in the snow in the provincial capital Maimana and Khwaja Sabz Posh district”, informed Zafer.
He also said more than 30 shepherds have been reported missing in the Pashtoon Kot, Andkhow, Qurmaqul, Balchiragh and Dawlat Abad districts of the province. “Efforts are underway to locate these shepherds”, assured the police chief.
The authorities also claimed that more than 1000 livestock animals have been lost to the cold weather, and at least 3000 more are missing. The authorities have said all the main roads in the province are open except the road linking Kohistan district with the provincial capital Maimana.
