LASHKARGAH (SW) – Deadly clashes are underway in parts of restive Helmand province between the security forces and the Taliban since Nauroz with both sides sustaining heavy casualties.
Umer Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar at least 25 insurgents have been killed in Grishk, Sangin and Naad Ali districts during security operations. He acknowledged 19 security forces got killed and 22 others got wounded during past two weeks during the operation.
Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman, Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, vowed to have killed close to 50 security forces in Sangin and 30 more security forces in Marja district. The provincial administration has rejected these claims.
Zwak asserted the government forces are on the offensives, and have reclaimed a number of areas from the Taliban insurgents. He added well-coordinated operations are underway in parts of Helmand with the backing of the air power.
