GHAZNI CITY (SW): A young woman in central Ghazni province has charged a provincial council member for forcefully marrying her off to a security guard.
The young woman who wished not to be named in the report, told journalists that 7 months back Abdul Jamae Jamae, a local PC council member, together with his guards raided her home and took her away with them.
This young woman claimed that Jamea has forcefully kept her in his office for 8 days and then forced her to marry one of his body guards. The woman’s mother also claimed that Jamea has threatened all of thier family members to death if they resisted. She added that the PC member has also threatened to take away her other daughter as well.
Talking to a group of journalists on Thursday, the victim asked the government to bring the perpetrators to justice. She asked the authorities to help her seek divorce from Jamea’s security guard. “They pushed me into a car by force and then kept threatening me, saying that they would kill my father if I resisted the demands they made”, she said. In response to why she did not complained earlier, the woman said that she could not submit formal complaint as Jamea had threatened her family members to death.
Her mother also claimed that Jamea had threatened her to death several times as she sought liberty for her daughter. In response to the allegation, Abdul Jamae however, stated that the woman is married to a student who has no affiliation with him. Jamea claimed that the allegations leveled against him are a “conspiracy” plotted by Abdul Karim Matin, the governor for the Ghazni province.
Jawed Salangi, spokesperson for Ghazni governor, on the other hand, stated on Thursday that the governor has nothing to do with this case. He added that the governor has instructed relevant institution to closely follow this case. He noted that the government is duty-bound to protect the citizens’ rights.
