KABUL (SW): Officials at the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) have said that some 25 government offices and departments have not paid the electricity bills worth billions of afghanis.
According to the utility, the ministries of Education, Interior, Counter Narocotics, Higher Education, Communication, Agriculture, Public Works, Health, Mines and Industries, Labors and Social Affairs and many other institutions and departments have been reluctant to pay their electricity bills.
Wahidullah Tawhidi, spokesman for DABS, said in Kabul on Wednesday that if these departments and ministries did not pay their bills soon, their electricity would be cut and would also be fined by 5 percent of their original bills.
He said that the reason behind irregular power distribution during the winter is these very unpaid bills that leave the utility short of funds to keep things straight.
DABS is the main electricity distribution company in Afghanistan. Officials at DABS have always complained about unpaid electricity bills by the government offices and influential individuals.
A while ago, to recover their unpaid bills from the influentials, DABS cut their electricity in a program in the present of the press and media.
