KABUL (SW): The government on Wednesday inked a peace deal with the Hizb-e-Isalmi party of the former Prime Minister Gulbudin Hekmatyar.
Pir Sayed Ahmad Galani, the head of the High Peace Council (HPC) hosted the two sides at his home as they broke the deal. Speaking at the occasion, Eng. Mohammad Khan, the Frist Deputy of Executive Office said that signing this draft agreement with Hizb-e-Islami is a step to be welcomed.
He said that in the draft agreement, Hizb-e-Islami led by Hikmat Yar, has not been given any particular privilege. Mohammad Khan added that while the country is going through the second round of Taliban’s offensives, this agreement would help Afghanistan move towards peace. In accordance with the agreement, the Hikmatyar led HI has promised to stop fighting against the government.
Agreeing with the treaty, the Hizb-e-Islami members in exile would be repatriated back to Afghanistan and the forgivable Hizb-e-Islami prisoners would be released.
The First Deputy to Executive Office further said that no agreement has been signed to free the prisoners unconditionally. He stressed that foreign forces’ withdrawal has not been included in the agreement signed by two sides.
The agreement states that in terms of foreign forces’ withdrawal, both Hizb-e-Islami and the Afghan government are bound to act in accordance with Peace Treaty.
