KABUL (SW): Officials at the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA), have said that the government has not acted on the commitments it made regarding election reform system.
FEFA released a six month report on Wednesday that said the commitments made by the government officials regarding electoral reform system have not been implemented because the government’s leaders do not hold any value for it and have not implemented them.
Mohammad Yousuf Rashid, Executive Director for FEFA, said that electoral reforms were one of the top priorities of the government but the government has done nothing over the past year to implement it.
He said that perfunctory approach towards electoral reforms is another reason why this process has failed to live up to the expectations.
FEFA has recommended that leaders of the Government of National Unity should leave behind their disagreements and prevent political parties from interfering in affairs related to electoral reforms.
He said that the leaders should assure citizens that the positions for election commissions would not be distributed between the leaders on political basis.
Zarqa Yaftali, a member of the selection committee, said that the committee was set to start its activity during this week but it has postponed it for some minor problems, and would start its activity next week.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has yet to issue another decree on election reform since his first decree was rejected by the parliament a few months back.
