Ghori Cement employees stage protest demonstration

18/12/2018

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – Dozens of the employees of Ghori Cement on Tuesday staged protest demonstration against non-payment of salaries.

The protesters claim the private operator of Ghori Cement has been withholding five per cent of their salaries for the past 12 years now.

Nisar Ahmad, president of the Ghori Cement Employees Union, said on the occasion the pending dues have soared to $ three million. He said the factory management is not willing to pay this back to the employees.

Abdul Sadiq and Abdul Haq, two protesting employees, said unless their outstanding dues are cleared, they would continue with the agitation, and would not allow the management to sell the cement in the market.

Meanwhile, Nazar Mohammad Mamozay, deputy technical manager at the Ghori Cement, clarified if the workers want to have the withheld amount, they technically need to retire first and receive the amount as their pension. He added the Ghori Cement factory was nationalized three years ago.

Currently, more than 600 contract employees are working here.
