Ghani vows to avenge massacre in Sar-i-Pul

KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a gathering here in Kabul on Tuesday, has underlined the need for serious measures to root out corruption, particularly from the security sector.

He said this on the occasion of inking of an agreement among the Attorney General's Office (AGO), Ministry of Interior (MoI), Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) to jointly fight corruption. Ghani acknowledged that corruption exists in the security sector, and it is pivotal to counter it. He added a single corrupt individual can spoil the whole organization.

The President expressed grim concerns over the loss of civilian lives caused by the militants in the Mirza Olang area of Sar-i-Pul province and vowed revenge. He noted enemies of Afghanistan are faced with defeat on all fronts and are hence indulging in such anti-Islam and inhuman acts. Ghani said it is important to first fight corruption and identify and prosecute those who are betraying their own people and country by leaving them at the mercy of the enemies.

Up to 50 people including civilian and member of the pro-government militia have been killed by Daesh and Taliban militants in Mirza Olang. The Taliban, however, claim they have killed a number of pro-government militia members, but not civilians. Daesh militants have not commented on this matter.
