JALALABAD (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said the government can provide office and security to the Taliban in Nangarhar, Kabul or Kandahar provinces.

He said this addressing a large public gathering in Shinwari tribe’s heartland in Nangarhar province. According to a statement issued by the provincial administration, Ghani vowed peace is coming, and he would sacrifice his life for peace in the country.

He expressed optimism soon the 40-year-old conflict in the country would be resolved peacefully. In a clear reference to the Moscow conference attended by the Taliban and a number of Afghan politicians, Ghani said: “We want peace in the Holy Mecca, is this better or that in Moscow”.

Journalists were not invited for the coverage of the event.

The President hailed the Shinwari tribes' firm resistance in the face of the pro-Daesh militancy. He thanked the tribes for paying sacrifices and standing shoulder to shoulder with the security forces to clear their areas from the presence of the rebels.

Local elders Malak Nazeer and Haji Moawen asked for sustainable support for the local anti-Daesh militia. They also thanked the security forces for the well-coordinated operation in the area against the militants.

Ghani became the first president to visit this party of the country. He was flanked by the Masharano Jirga (upper house) speaker, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, National Security Adviser, Hamdullah Muhib, NDS chief, Masoum Stanikzai and a number of other top officials.
