Administration in Ghor fails to properly spend budget

02/01/2019

GHOR (SW) – Members of the Ghor provincial council have blamed the local administration for failing to utilize AFN 140 million from the yearly expenditure budget.

Fazalul Haq Ehsan, chairman for the provincial council, told Salam Watandar he has documents to prove the provincial administration has not spent AFN 140 million from the annual expenditure budget. He pronounced it as betrayal with the local population in this relatively poor and backward province.

These concerns were echoed by Fazalul Haq Nijat, interim head for the directorate of education. He said due to alleged incompetency of the finance department, up to AFN 54 million from the annual budget for the directorate of education got wasted.

However, head of the directorate of finance, Mohammad Taher Momand, has rejected these allegations. He clarified this directorate has only withheld invoices signed last month. Statistics provided by the finance department here suggest the province has an annual budget of AFN 2.91 billion, and out of this amount up to AFN 1.984 billion have been utilized.

Local officials fear non-utilization of the budget would result in lack of attention by the government to Ghor province.
