KABUL (SW): In line with the Rules of Procedures, the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Wednesday suspended four of its members over prolonged absence.

Abdul Qadir, secretary of the house, announced the names of these four MPs who have been suspended in accordance to the Article 73 of the Rules of Procedures of the WJ that states the Speaker may, if he deems it necessary for preserving the order in the House, propose to the Administrative Board the suspension, for a period not exceeding two months, of a Member who disregards his authority or abuses the Rules of the House by consistently and willfully obstructing the business of the House, making verbal attacks on the president of the Islamic Republic, or making physical attacks on his colleagues or on Members of the Government.

It adds the mentioned Member shall be removed from the House immediately upon a decision of the Administrative Board and approval by the House. Those suspended include Ahmad Behzad, Farishta Anwari, Parveen Durani and Bashir Ahmad.

Abdul Ruaf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, said these suspended members cannot attend the sessions. The move was hailed by some members, but others raised objections towards it. They called for broadening the mandate of the Rules of Procedures. The Speaker mentioned that the matter of absence has recently been added to it.
