MAIMANA (SW): Authorities in the northern Faryab province have claimed that the government forces were achieving steady progress in the ongoing “Shamsher 7” (7th Sword) clean-up operation against local and foreign militants.
The offensives were launched days after a Taliban suicide attacker claimed more than 20 lives in the restive Almaar district.
Abdul Sattar Barez, Faryaab’s Acting Governor told SW the forces were making progress in Almaar and Qaisar districts. He said the Afghan National Army (ANA) was joined by the local police and commandoes from both the army and spy agency NDS.
The acting governor went on to say that some 43 militants have been killed in the operation so far but no casualties have been inflicted on security forces or civilians.
Sayed Abdul Baqi Hashemi, the head of provincial council confirmed the progress made by government forces. He told SW that the locals were fully backing the operation.
