Floods cause havoc in a number of provinces

KABUL (SW): Recent torrential rains have affected various parts across the country with a number of districts engulfed by floods.

Mohammad Aslam Seyas, Deputy for National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), told Salam Watandar that there is no exact figure for the casualties so far and that their staffers have been dispatched to the affected areas in the provinces to study the situation.

He said that the NDMA has prepared to provide the affected families with assistances.

Mohammad Nasir Kohzad, Head of NDMA in northern Baghlan province, told Salam Watandar that as a result of recent floods in Pul-e-Khomri and Dahan-e-Ghori district, thousands acres of agricultural lands have been affected.

He said the number of casualties is not clear yet.

Elsewhere in Logar, Eng. Homayoun, Head of Agricultural and Livestock Department in the province, told Salam Watandar that floods have damaged 1700 acres of lands in Mohamad Agha, Khoshi and Baraki Barak districts.

The affected families have urged the government to provide them with assistances as soon as possible.

Hamidullah Dadfar, Head of NDMA in Ghor, said that a bus carrying 12 passengers have been drowned in the floods.

Officials at NDMA Herat, has said that the flood has inflicted casualties on the residents over the past 24 hours. Three men have been reported dead in Sholgara district in Balkh due to the floods, which have also damaged 70 houses.
