HERAT CITY (SW) – Flash floods caused by torrential rain claimed at least five lives besides inflicting crippling financial losses, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar two people each got killed in Adrskan and Zawal districts while one person lost his life in Ooba district. He added ten more people including children are missing.
He said a passenger mini-bus engulfed in flood water in Ooba district. The governor’s spokesman said all but one person onboard this mini-bus are missing.
Hundreds of jeribs of agriculture land, gardens, shops and residential homes were also damaged by the devastating floods.
The governor’s spokesman said security forces and relevant government agencies are busy in rescue and relief operations.
Similar reports of destructions have been reported from Nuristan, Farah, Badghes and a number of other provinces as well.
