KABUL (SW) – First Lady Rula Ghani said on Saturday a short-lived peace is not something Afghans are longing for.
Addressing a moot here in connection with the peace process, she said the Constitution must be respected and system must be preserved in the wake of the lasting peace in the country. She said there are no guarantees for sustainable peace under such circumstances.
The First Lady said violence usually resurfaces after a short-lived peace that is why there needs to be efforts for sustainable and lasting peace.
Speaking on the occasion, Attaur Rehman Saleem, deputy head of the High Peace Council, said this government body is striving hard to create enabling environment for peace talks between the Taliban and the government.
Mohammad Ajmal Shahpur, deputy minister for youth affairs at the Ministry of Information and Culture, told the moot that only that peace deal would be acceptable that guarantees the gains of the past 18 years, rights of women and youth as well as freedom of speech and other human rights.
This comes as the Taliban and the U.S. are set to resume peace talks.
