HERAT CITY (SW) – The Crimean–Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) commonly known as Congo virus has gripped Herat province, officials informed on Monday.
Mohammad Naeem, head of the regional public hospital, informed the viral disease with symptoms of fever, muscle pains, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, and bleeding into the skin is spreading here. He blamed imported livestock from Iran and Turkmenistan for it.
Official statistics confirm 41 positive cases and 4 casualties in this connection. Last year, 80 people got infected with CCHF and 17 lost lives to this virus.
According to Ahmad Amir Nazad, head of the Disasters Management Authority in the western zone, the virus has infected a total of 115 people with 40 per cent in Herat alone.
