MAIMANA (SW) – A convoy of logistics for the security forces in Faryab remains stranded in Jawzjan since eight days despite the provincial governor’s threats to the Taliban against creating hurdles.
The Taliban have attacked this convoy on a number of locations. The fighting has also affected civilian population. In a latest such incident, more than two thousand families from the Sheren Tagab district have been forced to flee home.
Officials told Salam Watandar these Internally Displaced Persons are living under dire conditions in the district center.
Mir Hamza Sherezad, interim district police chief, said the IDPs have no proper shelter or food. He added most of these families are living in a public park in the district center.
Syed Sharafuddin, district governor, said no steps have been taken to address the needs of the IDPs. He said the displaced families are living on their own in guest houses, hotels and the market.
Two such IDPs, Syed Ehsanullah and Mehmood Hassan, told SW the displaced families from Sheren Tagab fled from their homes following clashes between the Taliban and the security forces. He said the rebels have taken shelter in their homes.
According to the local directorate of refugees, the relief and support operation for these IDPs would begin on Sunday.
Similar situation can been seen in four districts in the Andkhoy area of the province where up to four thousand families have been forced to flee.
