FARAH CITY (SW): A district chief in southwestern Farah province died in a remote-controlled landmine attack early on Tuesday.
Abdul Khalique, chief of the Khak-e-Safaid district, died when a remote-controlled landmine detonated as he was returning home after the morning prayers in the Farah city. Iqbab Babar, spokesman for the provincial police, told Salam Watandar the incident took place in the Chahar Bagh area of the city. He added the landmine was planted near the residence of the district chief.
Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a message, he noted Abdul Khalique has been killed along with his companions.
