KABUL (SW): Afghanistan has an abundance of public holidays for different occasions, yet many people – particularly students – skip many working days in this backdrop.
Friday was the first day of 3-day Eid-ul-Adha festivities and was officially declared as holidays by the government. Monday was technically the first working day after these holidays, but, the activities of many institutions have not yet begun, especially in the capital's schools.
A number of Kabul teachers said that while 2 days have passed since the end of the official holidays, students are still not attending classes. According to them, the absence of students in the school affects academic calendar. The teachers urged families to encourage their children to attend schools.
Ministry of Education (MoE) officials also urged families not to skip official days as off-days, otherwise, the students will be marked as absent.
Kabir Haqmal, the head of communication at the MoE, said inspection teams are assigned to look into schools.
