KABUL (SW) – To celebrate the 100th Independence Day, the National Unity Government has embarked on a number of extravagant plans.
Among such plans include the production of new anthems on education that would cost more than AFN 20 million. The National Unity Government has invited more than 800 school students from all 34 provinces representing various ethnic groups to Kabul for the production of four educational anthems. Among them, 100 would be selected for the final versions.
Hazrat Wahrez, a member of the children literature group ‘Gehwara’ said this lavish spending reminded him of the poverty-hit children. He added this amount could help buy 5000 new books for children.
Poet and writer Banefsha Bahar also criticized the idea of spending this amount of money of some anthems for education. She said this is particularly cruel towards students, retired people, orphans and widows as well as heirs of the security forces. She stressed the Ministry of Education should be held accountable for this. Banefsha blamed the education ministry for promoting symbolic and popular moves instead of undertaking fundamental steps for reforms and progress.
Meanwhile, Noorya Nuzhat, spokesman for the education ministry, clarified that the students do not only require school buildings, books and pen, but their talent needs to be acknowledged and promoted. In a social media post, she said school children worldwide have the liberty to embark on study tours, but in Afghanistan students remain deprived of it.
Noorya said all these students from across the country were given an opportunity to meet their peers from across the country and learn about each other.
It is important to note that the official cost for the production of these education anthems has not been confirmed by the education ministry so far.
