‘Elements within the NUG eyeing to manipulate elections’

11/09/2018

KABUL (SW) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, chief of the Hezb-e-Islami party, charged on Tuesday elements within the government are aiming to rig the forthcoming elections.

Addressing a presser at the headquarters of his party in Kabul, Hekmatyar said elements within the National Unity Government are aiming for weaker and troubled parliament than the present one.

He said the Independent Election Commission has been formed based on the choices of the ‘two factions’ in the NUG, hence the voter registration stickers have only been placed on identity cards in areas where they wished. The HI chief said he would not accept rigged elections, and the IEC should implement the proposals by the political parties.

Hekmatyar rejected the notion about lack of budget for district council members, and claimed some individuals in the government are drawing monthly salaries that are more than what a district council member can earn in a year.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the government in this regard, but to no avail.
