KABUL (SW) – The cabinet’s legal affairs committee headed by vice president Sarwar Danesh has approved the inclusion of the mother's name of the holder in the identity card.
According to the press office of the second vice president, the plan was approved at an extraordinary meeting of the law committee.
According to the statement, a draft amendment to some articles of the Population Registration Law was submitted to the meeting by the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA). The statement added that the draft was jointly prepared by the Ministry of Justice and the National Bureau of Statistics and Information.
Ahmad Javid Rasouli, head of the NSIA, said at the meeting that the move was in response to people’s demand and following the integration of the Population Registration Office into the National Statistics and Information Authority, the statement added.
Earlier, a number of women rights activists launched a campaign called "Where is My Name?" demanding that the mother's name be included in the identity card. It has been five years since the campaign was launched.
