Dostum warns Taliban of extinction

MAIMANA (SW): The Vice President Abdul Rasheed Dostum warned the militants on Tuesday to give-up arms or be prepared for ultimate extinction.

The VP is visiting frontlines in the north as Afghan security forces take on the militants that have caused havoc there. Dostum met the men in uniform as he visited the restive Qaisar district.

Referring to the death of Taliban Supreme Leader Mullah Omar in Pakistan, the VP said the world has finally seen which country is waging the militancy in Afghanistan. He also blamed Pakistan for first harboring the Taliban leader and then killing him.

“I told Mullah Mansoor (new Taliban leader) over a year ago that Jihad (holy war) is not mandatory for you but for me as you fight against the people and I have the responsibility to defend the sovereignty of the land and the government elected by the people” Dostum said.

The VP praised the bravery of security forces and awarded medals among them.

The Army Chief Gen. Qadam Shah Shahim also paid his second visit to Faryab this month and met the soldiers. Some 300 armed rebels including many foreign militants have been reported dead in the ongoing Sword-7 Operation in the north.
