KABUL(SW):Former president Hamid Karzai turned down formation of a separate fund for his office by the government.
Recently, Presdient Mohmmad Ashraf Ghani issued a decree allocating specific budget for Karzai’s office. The decree was issued on the second month of the current year. Meanwhile, the former president has turned down the allocated budget saying that the structure of his office did not require a specific budget.
Since being established, the Government of National Unity dedicated a building called Qasr-e-Sapidar as an office for the former president but Karzai returned it to the government, which is currently used as the office of the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.
A number of senators said that the former president was only allowed to be allocated funds according the Constitution. They termed Ghani’s decree as unconstitutional.
Mohammad Rahim, a member of parliament, said that Afghanistan needed foreign assistances and that it was not necessary to allocate budget for the former president and it was against the law.
He said budget should be allocated to the former president according to the Constitution only.
A number of parliamentarians however, agree with such degree as they said that the former president was entitled to have such budget.
