JALALABAD (SW): Doctors and pharmacists in Jalalabad have gone on strike against insecurity and targeted killings in the city.
Dr. Waheedullah Habibi, head of children ward at the regional public hospital, said on the occasion the strike has been called against growing number of targeted attacks aimed at doctors and other people associated with this profession. He blamed the security officials for failing to ensure safety of the citizens.
During the strike, the doctors are only performing duties at the emergency wards. The protesters have warned to close down emergency wards of public and private hospitals as well if their security is not ensured.
Dr. Najeebulah Sahebzada, chief of the pharmacists’ alliance, said on the occasion the city has long been reeling from insecurity, but now the doctors and pharmacists are increasingly being targeted. He added the provincial government has cited its limitations in regard to their demands, hence the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani should send a delegation to address their concerns.
A while ago, a group of traders staged similar protest demonstration in the city against insecurity and street crimes.
