KHOST (SW) – After a break of few months, the Peace March activists staged multiple demonstration in Kandahar, Nangarhar and Khost provinces in support for truce in the country.
Peace activists said they have had talks with the government officials, and got positive feedback, however, the Taliban have not responded positively to the various delegations of elders sent to them.
Samiullah, a peace activist who travelled from Helmand to Khost, said 38 members of his family have lost their lives to the ragging violence. He vowed to continue the struggle for peace until the dream for truce is realized.
Similar demonstrations were held in Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces.
Massoud Safi in Nangarhar and Gul Mohammad in Kandahar told Salam Watandar they demand the warring sides to cease fire until peace process gets momentum. They vowed to extend the public movement for peace to other provinces as well.
These pro-peace demonstrations took place in the backdrop of recent push on the regional and international levels for the peace process in Afghanistan. It also coincides with the fourth round of trips to the regional capitals by Zalmay Khalilzad, Special US Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation.
