JALALABAD (SW) – The death toll from Tuesday’s deadly suicide bombing in Nangarhar surged to 68 as dozens of wounded victims suffer under limited medical facilities in the province.
The regional Jalalabad public hospital is treating the bulk of over 150 wounded victims of this blast that ripped through a crowd of protesters in the Momand Dara district a day earlier. Dejected and frightened friends and relatives of the 68 dead and dozens of wounded were anxiously praying for the recovery of their loved ones.
Rana Gul Shinwari and Naveed Shinwari, two relatives of the victims, told Salam Watandar the medical facilities in the province are not sufficient to deal with the mammoth toll of the suicide bombing. They demanding the victims should be urgently sent to the capital Kabul or abroad for treatment.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor, confirmed 68 lives are lost and 168 others got wounded in this attack.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility, however, Obaidullah Shinwari, a member of the provincial council, has claimed the attack was carried out on the directives of the arrested militia commander, Bilal Pacha, against whom the protesters were agitating.
